A valley church sets out to make a big difference for people struggling with a troubled past. Today, a Sanger family received a complete home makeover.

The makeover was kept secret, until this afternoon. It was a very emotional surprise for A.J. and Susan Ramos.

"I'm speechless really. What a wonderful family we got here. God's good, God's so good," says A.J. Ramos.

The Sanger couple walked into their newly made over home today. It was the perfect touch to a fresh start.

Ramos says, "We were addicted, you know strung out, homeless."

The two have since turned their lives around. They are now part of the Time and Destiny Church; a church that brings hope to people with troubled pasts.

Pastor Paul Zavala says, "It's a home makeover by ex-gang members, drug addicts and drug dealers that have come together. Instead of being portrayed bad in the city, they've come together and decided to give something back to the community."

Dozens of church members worked hard to make the Ramos's house a home. The entire place was gutted. Everything from the paint on the walls to the stove in the kitchen, is brand new. The couples 13 year old son now has a decked out bedroom.

Susan Ramos says, "It looks beautiful. I could've never done that good of a job myself."

The city's mayor was even on hand for the big reveal.

Joshua Mitchell, Mayor of Sanger says, "I think it just defines who we are as a city. When someone is in need we come together as a community and we make sure their needs are made."

The Ramos's say they've worked hard to get where they are today, and this support, along with a home to now be proud of, is sure to keep them on the right path.

This was the Time and Destiny Christian Center's first home makeover. Pastor Zavala says they now plan to make it an annual event in the Sanger community.
