The city prides itself on its Diwali decorations which have become a big tourist attraction.
People gathered at temples to seek blessings from the Hindu god Shiva.
Yesterday marked the beginning of the festival.
Diwali celebrates the victory of good over evil and in the Hindu religious calendar it marks a new year.
