If you're looking for people who are the most obsessed with their looks, look no further than Fresno. The obsession is according to data collected by Foursquare the check-in Facebook application.
So is Fresno obsessed or just having fun? That’s up for debate, but what is definite is when it comes to hair, nails and make-up Fresno loves talking about it.
Almost all of us have made the call to a warm inviting salon like Spectrum, a one stop shop that does it all—make-up, nails and hair. “I feel beautiful, more attractive. I also feel relaxed,” says one of Spectrum’s clients.
Getting pampered is a feeling you want to share and more customers are by posting to Facebook. “Why not post it on face book if they feel great leaving the salon?” asks Ladue. Spectrum’s GM agrees saying client check-ins are good for business. “I think its great customers have smart phones and they want their friends to know where they're at,” says Robert Pasilla.
Fresno’s customers are checking-in so often to beauty schools and beauty retailers that it’s putting them at the top of a national list. Fresno is ranked number one in the country for being beauty obsessed.
Facebook's check-in application Foursquare added up the posts; it calculated check-ins by 15 million users from all over the country. It found Fresno checked in over 300,000 times at beauty places across the city. “Call it obsessed, call it proud; I don't know,” says Ladue.
What stylists are sure of is there's something about primping that makes a person feel great. Obsessed?
“I wouldn't say obsessed with beauty, I’d say maybe it’s a fun thing to do in town,” says Ladue.
It’s something to share with friends to leave them wondering about you're new color and cut. “I think it’s fun and to let people know you're at the salon and having a good time,” says Pasilla. “It’s something they want others to know.”
Salons say customer check-in’s actually help business; it's a free advertisement not only for the salon but for personal stylists. They say it's a good way to get new customers.
