A federal program designed to help young immigrants is paying dividends in Fresno. The program is called deferred action.
It gives young immigrants access to social security, a work permit, and driver's license for two years. More than a dozen people have been helped by this federal program at a law office in Fresno. Close to 4,500 people have been helped across the country. One immigration attorney says this opens many doors for them.
"There's always that fear that they cannot fully participate in US society. They can't have the opportunity that peers have," said attorney Vance Rasmussen.
"I don't want to leave my family. This is why I want this...to stay here with them," said Laura Vasquez.
There is a sudden rush to apply with the elections just days away. The deferred action only lasts for two years.
