A woman in Fresno County has died of the West Nile Virus. The county department of health says it's the second death this year in California.
So far this year in Fresno County seven people have fallen ill from the virus. A mosquito control manager says there is a lot more mosquito activity on hot days. The county public health officer encourages people to use repellant. It also helps to remove standing water in and around your home.
"We know that people that are older and generally over 50 will develop symptoms and also get the more serious version which is called the neuroinvasive disease," said Doctor Edward Moreno of the Fresno County Health Department.
The last time someone died from the West Nile Virus in Fresno County was in 2010.
