Every time Paul Phillips fires up his truck, he's got to feel like king of the road. Not only is he riding high, but he's at the top of his class among truckers.
Two weeks ago, Paul took the title of National Truck Driving Grand Champion. A serious competition in Orlando, Florida. It challenged the skills and safety knowledge of qualifying drivers nationwide. Paul describes it as the Superbowl of truck driving championships.
It's a goal Paul has tried to reach for 15 years. He's the first in the valley to win. A source of pride for his company Conway Freight and even his co-workers.
Paul says he grew up in the trucking business and has been driving for about 34 years.
He won a large cash prize, a brand new Ford Edge for his personal use, and his very won freight truck for the next year. Paul says, "It'll be brand new.. It'll have my name on it and say 2011 grand champion..and I'm the only one that has a key to it so nobody else can drive it which is pretty cool."
Pretty cool for a man who loves the open road; who loves making deliveries and meeting people; who's tops among truckers.
