Sals Restaurant New Location

Salvadors Restaurant in Mariposa May Be Closing It's Doors!

If it's up to the planning department Salvadors Restaurant in Mariposa may be forced to close it's doors after 10 years as a successful family restaurant!

Tomorrow there will be a meeting with the planning department at the county offices to discuss whether or not they will allow Sals Restaurant to open at what was formerly called "Gold Rush Grill". The former restaurant went out of business and was bought by Exit Realty. This site has always been a restaurant of some sort for 20+ years. It seems that since it became a real estate office the last two years the "Grandfather Clause" expired 2 weeks before the paper work was done to once again operate as a restaurant.

Salvador Gonzales has a successful restaurant in our town. He has been operating for 10 years employing many of our youth as well as providing jobs to the locals. His restaurant is a favorite to all the locals and tourists that visit our small town. He is well respected, always gives back to our community; yet he will be forced to close his doors on October 31, 2007 as the building he is now in is in escrow.
The planning commission wants him to have 20 plus parking spaces that is dedicated to him in order to open his doors to the public. If you have ever been to Mariposa you know that nobody has this many parking spaces. It is not a resonable request!

There has been a huge cry of outrage from the citizens of Mariposa supporting Sal in his efforts and I expect a large turnout tommorrow morning in support of him! Petitions have been circulating and we have close to a thousand signatures but it may all be in vain.

It does not seem fair that one man can decide the fate of any business! If new laws need to be written or exceptions made; then so be it. To put someone out of business over parking spaces seem ludicrous!

I worked at the new location for over 12 years as a waitress. I saw owners come and go and we never had a parking problem. The tourists park their cars at their hotel and walk to the restaurants they choose to eat at.

I'm writing you this letter because I wanted to draw attention to what is going on in Mariposa today with this new planning commissioner and how one man can have so much power over our economy. He is also the one who is making a place like "Coyote Springs" wish they had never come to Mariposa in the first place!
This meeting tommorrow held in the new county building will also be deciding the fate of Coyote Springs! We are both on the morning agenda.
Friday October 19th between 9:00 and 10:00 am.

We would love your support!
