Contreras will serve as CEO & President while Pottorff moves up the bench as Head Coach for the Summer 2011 season
CLOVIS, CA (12/31/10) - With the New Year upon us, the Clovis Sidekicks of the Pacific Conference of the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) have announced a re-organization of their upper management team as preparations for their Summer 2011 season have already begun. Milt Contreras - the mentor for the Sidekicks during their inaugural 2010 season in the WPSL - will now take over as CEO and President for the 2011 season, while his Assistant Erik Pottorff will succeed him as Head Coach at the start of the New Year.
Contreras led the team to an impressive 6-6 record in the highly competitive North Division last summer, while two of his players - Anessa Patton (10g, 4a, 24pts) & Ida Rodriguez (5g, 5a, 15pts) - finished in the Top 10 in league scoring. Patton (a 2010 ALL-WCC First Team selection for Santa Clara) and Koleen Anderson were selected to the All-Pacific Conference Team, while the former was also honored as a 2010 All-WPSL Third Team selection and will be an intriguing professional prospect as a graduating senior for both Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) and the two new WPSL pro teams - the Bay Area & OC Sol.
"In terms of looking at the Sidekicks long range, with this change made, it will allow me to promote and oversee operations that I could not do in our inaugural season last year," said Contreras. "With this new professional team entering our conference this season, I will expect higher competition, and this will be an excellent opportunity to show the youth players within the Central Valley that the Sidekicks can play at a very high level."
Erik Pottorff, whom of which his passion for the beautiful game can go unrivaled ever since he began playing as a boy, leading up to his days competing for Fresno State and the semi-professional Fresno Dragons during the 1990's. Ever since his playing days, he has been involved with assisting multiple youth soccer programs as well as coaching numerous club teams in the Central Valley.
"It feels great being named Head Coach of the Clovis Sidekicks for the 2011 season," said Pottorff. "I know it will be tough having another strong team in our conference now, but I think it will be a great season not only for our players, but for our fans as well. This club has learned a lot since its establishment last year and we just have to keep doing what we're doing to do well for the upcoming season."
"I am very excited that Erik is now the head coach," said Contreras. "There will be high expectations for him such as making the team grow not only as players, but as well as connecting with the community. I have known Erik for a long time and I feel he is the person who can rise to the occasion and do an excellent job."
