Mitchell Beaton, like most kids in this area has asthma. We discovered it when he was about 6 months old and even at that age, had no problem seeing doctors, sitting through numerous breathing treatments, and all with a great smile! While we were getting his asthma under control, we were at urgent care, the hospital emergency rooms and many, many doctor visits. Mitchell never complained, just did what he was asked to do. Now, at age 5 1/2 (getting ready to start kindergarten), Mitchell has 3 medications that he has to take on a daily basis and does it every day without fail. He administers them himself (with supervision!) and never complains, never says no, never asks why. We also found out about 8 months ago that he is allergic to cats and dogs among other things. We quickly put our indoor cats outside and cleaned! Mitchell was never sad or upset that he could not longer pet the cats or dogs, he simply started saying, "I am allergic. I can't pet your dog." He will still run with the dogs, and play (without touching) and feed the outdoor cats at home, but knows what is acceptable and what is not. Amazing to me for a 5 year old! In general, Mitchell has so much personality. His facial expressions and interesting comments always keep me on my toes!
