I’d like to nominate my grandson Devonte Boykin for “Incredible Kids”. Devonte was a normal infant growing up till a very unwanted part of our family came to haunt us once again. Devonte contracted a viral meningitis at 18months & became very ill. Once seen at the Charlie Mitchell Clinic He was immediately admitted to C.C.C. H. He was put through vigorous testing & after 1 week he was diagnosed with meningitis. Devonte was left with speech problems & difficulty regaining his mobility skills. He went through various therapies including speech & physical therapy & saw 9 different specialists.
Meningitis has been an unwanted part of my family. Devonte’s great great grandmother contracted a bacterial meningitis as an adult & also became very ill & had been hospitalized in the I.C.U. fighting for her life. She still lives to tell about it. Devonte’s uncle also contracted bacterial meningitis as an infant. His uncle Francisco was left mentally impaired & passed 7 years ago at the age of 3.
Devonte now is a normal healthy happy 4 year old & still continues to progress. He attends YMCA & loves to skatebaord, play his WII & playstation3. His best friends are his cousins Isaiah & Elijah. He recently found he loves the ocean & loves to “jump waves”. I am so proud of my grandson Devonte, my son & grandmother for having given meaning to the words fight, determination to live, patience, hope, family & most of all LOVE! & showing me the true meaning of MIRACLES….=) Devonte is an amazing child & a blessing & inspiration to me & many others.
Angels here & there, Angels everywhere

As Devonte's parents, we feel that God has truly blessed us in his quick recovery. Thank you to all of those who helped us during his illness and thank you to everyone who are part of our lives today!
