Johnny Rains is a gift from God to my husband Dale and myself. I had no intention of getting a dog that day as I left my doctor's office, but driving south on Akers Rd. in Visalia I suddenly got a thought to visit the SPCA facility located along Hwy. 99. I hadn't bonded with a dog since losing my precious American Staffordshire in 1986, so I was just going there out of curiousity. My first walk through the area where the days potential rescues were being held yielded nothing that grabbed me. But once I walked back through, I spotted a small black and grey dog with his back up agains the cage wires. The yappy rat terrier I'd previously seen in that cage was still there and then I noticed the opening at the back of the run that permitted the dogs to pass through so it was no wonder I didn't see this small dog the first time. I stuck my finger in the cage to and the little guy licked it. I asked to take him out for a test walk and it was love from that moment on. Johnny came home with me that day and our lives have been richer ever since. We love being Momma & Daddy to him. He is sweet, smart and funny and we are the happiest we've ever been. God was surley smiling on us that fateful day. We feel like Johnny rescued us back when he came to live with us because he is a centering force in the midst of our very busy lives. The love we had for eachother was multiplied by three the day he moved in.
