Tonight my heart sank lower than its sank in a very long time. I took my family to go see the "Diamond Dogs" at the celebration tonight only to watch hundreds of disappointed children be turned away by their hometown heroes. No one said that autographs would only be signed for thirty minutes. Nor did anyone care that at least a thousand people waited in line for a chance to meet Fresno's finest only to be turned away after hours of standing in line at an event that was supposed to be one of the most joyful experiences Fresno has had in a very long time. Its not so much that my child couldn't get an autograph, because he's older, but the look on all the young childrens faces when they found out they could not meet the people they looked up to. I say "looked" because this win was supposed to be a big boost for a growing Fresno and our children had to have been the most excited. I see a grim future when a child's only memory of Fresno State is to be told that they aren't worth a half hour longer. These children are the future Bulldogs as well as the future baseball players that will represent our city. I can only imagine how many dreams were crushed tonight with one harsh statement, "Please go home, no more autographs."
My heart breaks...
