The Buchanan Beats took step one in their pursuit of a Cal Ripken World Series Championship with a Day One win over Williamette Valley, Oregon 10-4. Mitch Casillas and DJ Martinez combined pitching efforts only allowed 4 hits. Martinez pitched a perfect 3 innings facing the minimum 9 batters.
Down 3-4 in the top of the 4th, tournament Home Run hitting contest winner Cory Williams hit a 2-run home run to give the Bears the lead. From there the Bears took over scoring 4 more in the 5th and 1 in the sixth.
Grant Gambrell had an excellent day hitting 2 doubles and a single and was solid in the field with 5 assists and 1 put out.
