With this win the Buchanan Bears will now play in the winner’s bracket final Wednesday, August 13th at 7:30 CST/5:30 PST vs. West Raleigh, North Carolina in which the winner will advance to the Cal Ripken World Series Championship Game(s). The loser will move to the loser’s bracket and have to win their way back to the Championship Game. Wednesday's game can be heard on Sporting News radio local channel 1550AM or via online streamming audio on www.1550snr.com.
It has been noted that West Raleigh is currently undefeated (31-0) this year in tournament competition throughout the All-Star season.
In the game against Branchburg, New Jersey, the Bears got off to a quick start thanks to Grant Gambrell. Arruda lead off with a single to left field and Gambrell belted the 1st pitch over the right centerfield fence to give the Bears an early 2-0 lead with no outs.
Next Williams singled and advanced to second on a passed ball. Mitch Casillas flied out to center to advance Williams to third then scored on a passed ball. Three runs on five hits.
In the Beas 3rd, Williams hit a homerun over the left center fence that tied a World Series Tournament record with is 2nd HR of the competition. Mitch Casillas singled and 1 out later Mitchell Souza singled to the left side of the infield. Marcus Cummins walked to load the bases. Josh Friesen grounded into a fielder’s choice throwing out Casillas at the plate. Conner Loeprich singled to score Souza.
Two runs on four hits and two left on base.
In the 4th the Bears continued to score as JT Arruda doubled to left center field to lead off the inning. Grant Gambrell flied out to deep left field as Austin Markowski robbed him of a homerun. Arruda reached third on a past ball and Williams grounded out to second that scored Arruda.
One run on one hit with none left on base.
The scoring contunied in the 5th as Martinez walked to lead off the inning. One out later, Kyle Wynn walked to put runners at first and second. 1 strike out later, Conner Loeprich singled to right field to score Martinez.
One run on one hit and one left on base.
In the 6th, the Bears got one more run when, with 2 outs, Williams walked and Logan Krause reached on an infield hit while Martinez walked to load the bases. Mitchell Souza singled up the middle to score Williams.
One run on two hits with three left on base.
Buchanan wins 8-0 over Branchburg.
