On June 5th during the CHP’s Sober Graduation Party for the Madera High class of 2008 I witnessed a CHP unit parked in a Handicapped Parking Stall in a parking lot next to the venue. I approached an officer about the parking violation and was blown off. I took a photo of the car and let the officer know it would be on my website Monday morning (www.MaderaOnline.com).

That officer had another officer in a CHP unit follow my minivan as I left the party around 1am. I was sited for having a tail light out when I hit the street. I showed the officer the new tail light I just purchased that night to fix the problem Saturday morning and I was still cited. I said the ticket was in retaliation for the photo. The officer said I was trying to win a “pissing contest” with the CHP.

I filed a complaint and the Lieutenant of the Madera CHP office, David Paris, claims the parking lot was closed to public parking for the event, but the night of the Sober Graduation the parking lot was filled with cars of graduates and volunteers attending the party. If the CHP has no regard for Handicapped Parking how are these spots ever going to be protected for those that need them?

I have a handicapped placard for my vehicle because of problems with my ankle and lower back. My mother has a placard for sever asthma and a heart condition. I am very committed to defending handicapped rights to parking stalls and local law enforcements inability to cite violators.

Here is the answer I got from the Commander of the CHP in Madera:

Lt. David Paris, Commander of the Madera Office of the California Highway Patrol

After a thorough and complete investigation, we were unable to substantiate your allegations. Our investigation determined Officer Ruvalcaba had not violated California Vehicle Code section 22507.8(a). This was determined due to the fact that parking lot where his patrol unit had been parked was closed to public parking for the duration of the event. (September 2, 2008)

First of all I am missing the 899 other cars parked in the parking lot. You are a whining, sniffling piece of liberal trash. You will probably vote yes for marijuana. Was the CHP unloading his car? Did anyone ask him to move the car. I doubt it

This is exactly what is wrong with Madera CHP. The cop broke the law. He was probably the same cop that shot and killed the motorist for a DUI pull over and his camera wasn't on. MURDER just like his daddy did at the Madera PD.

This was an event sponsored by the CHP and you are complaining about the spot the car was in. Clearly you should think about if this event was not sponsored where would all the high school kids be.. And regarding your light you should have fixed it

I would suggest you forward this photo to Every Major News station such as ABC, FOX, CBS, NBC, and then CNN, after that I would also send a copy to the Governors office as well as the CHP Headquarters and see how then see how the LT explains that.

I looked at the picture and I see that the officer did nothing wrong. You should be thankful that they were there to support, serve and protect the citizen of your county.Fix the problem you may have before getting yourself in a bigger mess.

another car. It was the only semi-open stall in the entire parking lot. So if every stall was filled by the nearly one thousand people in the event just next to the parking lot, how could it be closed? Officer Steve, UR right about the tail light.

The parking lot was full of cars from the over 900 kids and 50 volunteers that attended the event. It was not a closed parking lot as the CHP would like you to believe. And the car was four feet into the stall from the back. There was no room to park

I barely hit him. I barely was over the limit. She was just barely under 18. The point I think is the lot was not closed and a CHP officer was parked in the handicapped stall enough that no one else could use it.

he's barely parked in it. I would still park there. So what, get over it. And if the parking lot was closed, nobody could park there anyway. As for the tail light, you should have fixed it at the store where you bought the light, especially at night.

Police officers are the most power part of the legal system. They have the power of life and death and the knowledge that they can do whatever they want when ever they want. Especially in Madera where the DA thinks he is also above the law.
