Two birds in the hand...

Critter Have to Be Closed by Landlord

Critter Haven, near Tollhouse, is being closed by the Landlord after 11 years of serving the community. All of the Critters need new homes as soon as possible. Please check out our website: http://www.netptc.net/yaks/ and let us know if you can adopt a Critter or help in any way.

The handsome guy holding the Emu chicks is my husband, Jack. He's 76 and has Alzheimer's or some form of memory problem, but he's a sweetheart! We're hoping to find a doctor who will examine him and help him, even though we have no money for medical fees.

I'm Cynthia, Jack's wife of almost 26 years. We're being kicked out, too, and have nowhere to go and only Jack's Social Security for income. We're obviously in dire straits and need help to keep from becoming homeless.

We'd welcome any suggestions, and would be even happier to have some HELP!

Good news! A kind family has adopted the Ducks!

Jumping Jack Flash says ... on Monday, Oct 26 at 8:39 AM

PS) To Bob/Jezzeel/Jeff, you can't sell the place your father and his wife are looking after for you, can you? So go back to how things were and stop trying to sell a property in a recession and hurting people as you go.. You will not be so angry.

Jumping Jack Flash says ... on Saturday, Oct 24 at 4:15 PM

Bob/Jezzeel, just tell the truth about your side of this story - then you'll feel less aggressive and less likely to bad mouth people - just get it all off your chest - it's OK to cry.. just make it right, that's all. Make it right.

Nick Cotton says ... on Friday, Oct 23 at 10:12 AM

Jezzeeel: Even if everyting is true about "the wife" it's irrelevant to the issue of throwing the dad out....or are you diverting the conversation as there is no acceptable response?

pauline fowler says ... on Thursday, Oct 22 at 7:55 PM

It simply comes down to the fact that it is inexcusable to throw your ailing father and his wife to the curb. There are absolutely no excuses for that kind of behavior. No amount of finger pointing or lies will change that.

Kitty K says ... on Thursday, Oct 22 at 2:24 PM

Lovit, Mr Anon. Time heals all wounds and it also wounds all HEELS... These are decent people and the sons are acting like bums. What goes around....

Anonymous says ... on Thursday, Oct 22 at 1:36 PM

Mr. Jazz Heel, There sure are some despicable people In this world. Never fails that when they're not getting their way or they get busted for some sin or intention, they begin slinging insults or accusations on someone else who is blameless...

Mollie says ... on Thursday, Oct 22 at 1:06 PM

Continuing, his so called children are certainly doing nothing for him. A young woman left her abusive mother. An older lady is with someone she cares about deeply. His kids are a poor example of unconditional love. Wonder how well they sleep.

Mollie says ... on Thursday, Oct 22 at 1:03 PM

Jezzeel, don't you think if she was a con artist and taking everything she would have left Jack by now??? She really loves him, takes care of him, always there for him. Without her he would be lost.

ERIK says ... on Thursday, Oct 22 at 12:42 PM

Jezzeel, what kind of nasty drugs are you on? I hope you get sued for deformation of character and libel suits keep you awake at night. You really are a piece of work.

Victoria Q. says ... on Thursday, Oct 22 at 12:41 PM

To the sons: Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. Take a good look in the mirror, mates. Think about what you're doing to your own father. Would you want your kids to treat you the way you treat him? One word... KARMA!

Oliver Cromwell says ... on Thursday, Oct 22 at 12:27 PM

Jazeel (whichever son you are), you sir absolutly disgust me, by your words you obviously have never heard of the crime of defamation, in this case as you have used the written word "libel". These are serious crimes and I trust you have a good lawyer

Actual Neighbor says ... on Thursday, Oct 22 at 12:04 PM

Jazzeel or John or Jeff - Why the sudden lying slurs on Cynthia's character? You haven't spoken to her or your Dad for months, so why do you feel the need to be nasty? Don't try to pass your drug habits off as hers!

Larry P says ... on Thursday, Oct 22 at 11:58 AM

Jezzeel - Cynthia did NOT abandon her parents. Her mother abused her for years and she finally escaped. Shame on you for being so cruel and heartless!

Jean says ... on Thursday, Oct 22 at 11:55 AM

John aka Jazzeel, this man's wife is named Cynthia, she's almost 60, and is hardly young! I've known her for years. She's a good friend to many. has never conned anyone, and has been looking for work since she moved here. Why are you lying about her

Jezzeel says ... on Saturday, Oct 3 at 5:05 PM

Know you all people...the wife of this man is a young woman who abandoned her own parents. She is young and a leech. Always taking never giving a real con artist. She could work but has refused to for years. A pot smoking piece of trash. evict

Jumping Jack Flash says ... on Sunday, Aug 23 at 3:49 PM

Ok Bob - will you tell us the other side of the story? I have not added a comment before because I wanted to hear the other side of the story. And I have a life thank you - do you? Be a MAN and come on out! Don't be cowardice (a coward)..

Bob says ... on Sunday, Aug 23 at 12:20 PM

How quick we are to judge without hearing the other side of the story. Get a life.

OY VEY! says ... on Saturday, Aug 22 at 8:22 PM

American , where is the compassion? Show me,. Is the son making sure his father and wife have some where else to go? If he makes money from leasing the land, is he going to use some of that money to help his Dad?

American says ... on Thursday, Aug 20 at 7:23 PM

I feel horrible for this couple, but, I have to remind everyone that we live in America where we have freedom and property rights. The landlord has the right to lease his property and earn money. This does not mean that he doesn't have compassion.

Violet says ... on Wednesday, Jul 29 at 7:47 PM

I've been following this sad tale, and must make a comment: Bless you Jack and Cynthia. I hope someone out there will come forward with a solution for you. To the evil LL/son, what goes around comes around. We all hope you get what you deserve.

TheGK says ... on Wednesday, Jul 29 at 12:40 PM

You can find the Critter Haven Website at: http://www.netptc.net/yaks/ Jack's son hasn't communicated with us at all since he decided to kick us out. We're trying to find a pro-bono attorney to advise us, but have had no luck so far.

AnimalLover says ... on Wednesday, Jul 29 at 9:24 AM

Back to see if there's an update. I've told so many about this story. No-one can believe that a son would do this. Is there a website to the Critter Haven? Maybe there will be update there? I see from Cynthias comment that Jack is worsening - oh no!

Bil8egg says ... on Wednesday, Jul 29 at 9:19 AM

What's this? Son fed up with his dad? So after dad helped him out, he's dumping him in a ditch? AND his caring wife - AND some lovely animals? Where AM I and what year are we in? I've never heard such misery!

Neda says ... on Wednesday, Jul 29 at 9:06 AM

I am reading this with disbelief - I saw an interview with Cynthia and it seems the son asked them to do him a favor by living there and looking after the place. Now he's throwing them off the property? Abrupt isn't it? What changed with the son?

Mal says ... on Wednesday, Jul 29 at 9:00 AM

Me too, Myword, I've searched the net and can find nothing as an update - I see that Jack is getting worse, it is killing his spirit Cynthia has commented, so very sad! I still cannot believe a son would do this to his dad. Unbelievable!

Myword says ... on Wednesday, Jul 29 at 8:55 AM

Wonder if anything changed, how and where the critters are, and if this wicked son has evicted his parents - if so, where are they, it's too cold for elderly to be on streets - so I pray they are sheltered.

GrandmaW says ... on Monday, Jul 27 at 3:25 PM

This gentleman has Alzheimer's for goodness sake! What does this cruel son think, his Dad will forget what he did to him? Well, God knows, Cynthia knows and now we know...

Cynthia Sutherland says ... on Sunday, Jul 26 at 8:12 PM

Jack isn't doing at all well. If killing a man's spirit isn't a crime, it should be.

George Mann says ... on Sunday, Jul 26 at 10:54 AM

Pl don't throw your daddy out - as a local I know Critter Haven, I'm not lucky enough to know Jack or Cynthia - but have heard of their great work with homeless critters. So their SON clicks his fingers and asks them to get rid of critters and go?

Susan says ... on Saturday, Jul 25 at 1:56 PM

Oh this gets sadder and sadder - the landlord won't even come out from behind his curtain? Please landlord, at least let us here what you have to say. Thank you.

Jean says ... on Saturday, Jul 25 at 11:24 AM

The landlord is posing as Neighbor? Why not give his opinion as himself? And greed is the cause? Greed is HUGE in CA . However, I know of no-one else who would be so greedy as to throw parents off land they asked them to take care of for them, no, no

lothcme says ... on Saturday, Jul 25 at 10:47 AM

I'm very saddened and sorry to hear about the heart breaking plight these two elderly pensioners are in. California, if any need help, it's these 2! Folks across the country are following their wrenching story. Come together and offer them support???

Jack Sugden says ... on Friday, Jul 24 at 9:50 AM

Living in that part of Ca with the extreme temperatures is hard enough - looking after animals is a 24/7 job - no days off either!! Couldn't these precious caring people be left to enjoy what they do so lovingly. This is inhuman!

Donald Campbell says ... on Friday, Jul 24 at 6:27 AM

Jean - I suspect that "Neighbor" is in fact the son/landlord getting snippy. Im afraid he is no "son" at all, because noones child turns their own father out onto the street in search of fast and easy money. Disgusting, disgraceful individual.

Linda says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 3:43 PM

In answer to Jean: Neighbor sounds a bit cold in my opinion. Some people don't see the sense in taking care of animals I guess. But people who do it, with what meager funds they have, are angels here on earth in my opinion.

AnimalLover says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 3:42 PM

Another sad story - I sincerely hope it can be resolved and the outcome be different. Accept diversity and different lifestyles to Landlord, God will know they are good people - your father and his wife watching over animals who have no-one. Proud!

Jean says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 2:52 PM

Neighbor said, 'Don't believe everything you hear from animal collectors' - what can that mean? It sounds to me like Neighbor does not like animals! Why call it 'collecting' when actually people drop their critters off knowing care is there?

Rosie says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 2:45 PM

Digusted with the son...after being raised by his parents, still that is nothing new these days they cannot wait to inherit. Greed will be their downfall.

Gina R says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 2:27 PM

This is why I am glad I have no kids; in the old days kids would take care of the parents; now instead the kids are the worst enemies. From these comments strangers have more compassion for you. Where are they going to live, in a ditch?

Sharon says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 1:58 PM

A friend alerted me to this story and I wanted to say I'm really sorry your son is being so wicked to you and your critters. May he change his mind and be reminded that we all get old.

Simon says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 1:53 PM

My dad saw this article on the net and told me about it. I had to comment to say it is disgusting treating your own flesh and blood in this way. Those poor animals too - I haven't heard anything this sad before. Families should stick together!!

Neil says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 1:26 PM

I posted but it didn't show. I saw this on the net and wanted to say I feel for you both and the critters. I love my mom and dad so can't imagine a son doing this to his parents. Sorry it happened - what goes around, comes around, so they say.

Neil says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 1:23 PM

Saw this on the net - wanted to say that it is very bad when a son is so mean to his dad and mom - I feel for you both, and the critters. x

Jean says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 1:15 PM

Just read about this on the internet - and can hardly believe it. Lord, what is the world coming to? All those gorgeous critters, and then the wonderful couple who have cared for them. And their SON is abandoning them? This breaks my heart.

Donald Campbell says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 1:08 PM

Glenda - Why? Simple - GREED! Plain and Simple old fashioned GREED!

Jane Hollow says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 1:07 PM

Also read this on internet, couldn't believe it either - how could this happen? PLEASE landlord-son, please reconsider what you are doing? To be older is enough of a prob, but homeless too? No, surely it was an argument and it was said in anger?

Glenda Goodman says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 1:02 PM

I also saw it on the net - and can hardly believe what I'm reading. An elderly man with a memory problem and his loving wife are being forced to get rid of the critters they've helped - then their own son throws them off his land? Why? Unbelievable!

Charles B says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 12:47 PM

What? Am I to believe that a fellow with Alzheimer's is being evicted by his own son? Now I have heard it all! This son should think again - how heartless. I saw this story on the net, and had to read it to believe it. Disgusting!!

Sheila Thompson says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 12:39 PM

Oh dear, another example of elder abuse, and committed by the persons son? How can a son have no respect for the father who raised him? Will you reconsider your actions? See the agony you're putting these people through? You should help them - please

Leavin' California says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 12:34 PM

I heard about this via the internet - and had to come on and ask, why is the landlord throwing them off the land? What kind of land is it and is the landlord planning on living there? I would hope with such an outcry, the landlord would rethink?

Josie says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 12:23 PM

This is outrageous and cruel. I hope the son reconsiders and thinks about what this is doing to his family and these animals. This generous and obviously loving couple do not deserve this. I pray for a good outcome for them.

Michael says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 12:01 PM

They seem so loving, putting the critters' futures first, rather than their own. I wish there was something I could do to help - but I am but an elderly person, caring for my wife, who has dementia - and trying to make ends meet. It's hard very hard

Donald Campbell says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 11:31 AM

Albert - Just goes to prove in this day and age, money is more important than blood. I just cannot imagine ANY son throwing his own father out on the street in search of a fast buck.

Albert says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 11:26 AM

This is so scary, I am in my 70's and can't imagine my son throwing me to the Streets (on one SS check, NO-ONE can make rent, let alone eat). I told my sons about this article and they say something must be done to help them stay living there.

Maria says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 11:20 AM

I am appalled to read this article (I heard about). To the son and landlord, is there no other solution? My mother had Alzheimer's and the last thing to do is change their environment, it disorientates, and makes them worse - please reconsider?

Brian B says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 11:15 AM

I agree with CA Dreamin - Karma indeed.. One day you will be old and gray, maybe with a memory problem. I hope you never get turned out on the streets by your own offspring. Ashamed of yourself? I would be in your position!

CA Dreamin' says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 11:10 AM

To the landlord/so-called son: what you do will come back to you, one day you will be old and get ill too, will you have any friends to help you in YOUR time of need? Karma baby

Ozzy says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 11:05 AM

This story touched my heart. To the son:Please rethink your plan. The stress you are putting on your dad will only cause his health to go downhill. Let him live the life he loves. Even if you feel your intentions are good let him have his happiness.

Stephen says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 11:00 AM

I heard about this story and had to comment. So a man is evicting his Alz. father from a property that helps homeless animals? Totally unacceptable! Where are they supposed to go? It breaks my heart to think about it.

Susan says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 10:49 AM

I didn't realize the landlord was the SON!! In reply to "Neighbor" - I suspect you are the SON and landlord, posting here - can't you even post as yourself? Shame on you!

Lancashire Lass says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 10:21 AM

Ooooh karma has a strange way of working, seems the landlord may be playing with fire here! ;) These precious people are living on social security and now to be made homeless whilst ill doesn't bear thinking about God bless them all!

Billy says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 10:08 AM

If people drop their pets and unwanted animals on these good folks and they are able to take care of them and feed them until someone either adopts or buys, then good for them! I wish there were more people in the world like these two.

Jim Poole says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 10:07 AM

John M - Neil - These animals have NEVER been up for sale, you would be surprised how people can live with little money if they put their minds to it.

Thomaui says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 10:01 AM

Sad to read something like this can happen in ones extended family. I know that you will survive this horror after all look at the ones you've already gone through. Try to take VERY good care of yourselves & hope both your health issues improve.

Neil says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 9:43 AM

In response to John M: I agree with Rosie - how can this couple, living on ONE SS income feed themselves, no less all the animals. Perhaps-though heartbreaking-they have had to sell an animal from time to time to live.

Rosie says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 9:30 AM

In response to John M: maybe they were for sale 'years ago', now they are homeless - does it make any difference? If they were a money maker - can you blame someone for supplementing their social security? Maybe a sale meant food?

Bill W says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 9:28 AM

No matter what the story is about the animals, it's despicable for a son to throw his elderly father out in the streets, especially if Dad has memory issues. There's a special place in hell for someone who thinks it's ok to do this.

Julia says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 8:32 AM

What a shame that we live in a society where not only animals, but humans are disposable! I wish their son had a change of heart or at least tries to get them housing and care for Jack!

John M says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 8:20 AM

there MUST be more to this story i heard those animals were for sale years ago..now they are a rescue? or a money maker? confused. wish someone would clear it all up

Kevin says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 8:16 AM

It sounds as though the son is treating his family like animals, hoping that someone else will adopt them and give them a good home. Thank God there are people like Jack and Cynthia out there with different attitudes.

Molly says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 6:51 AM

I'd be interested in hearing the son's side of things. I can understand him wanting to sell, especially if facing hardship himself, however, what does he expect his father to do? Is he intending to help? Or is he trying to avoid dealing with it?

Concetta says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 5:34 AM

I am curious if the son is in the process of finding these people a new home. I could not live with myself. It's truly sad because taking care of animals is one of the best therapies for Alzheimer's patients.

Ed the Elder says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 5:31 AM

As someone approaching their twilight years, I can't help but think, has the son even considered how such a drastic life change, taking away all that his father is comfortable and happy with, will affect his alzheimers?

Ethel says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 4:35 AM

Demolished a home? It's their home the landlord is demolishing. Home is where the heart is....or should it be, in the landlord's case, 'home is where the $$$$ are'? Shame on you!

Annie says ... on Thursday, Jul 23 at 1:47 AM

I am hoping and praying there is someone out there to help to keep this "Family" together. (minus a certain son).

William Rubin says ... on Wednesday, Jul 22 at 3:11 PM

Disgusting - Disgraceful - Diabolical. Typical behavior from a money hungry landlord. To evict someone with suspected Alzheimer's is simply sick. This landlord is no human being, because he has no humanity. Four legs good, two legs bad!

Alf says ... on Wednesday, Jul 22 at 3:04 PM

I'm surprised the landlord can get away with evicting this nice couple and their critters with no notice - is this even legal? Good luck Critter Haven, we need more like you - not less.

Alfie Luna says ... on Wednesday, Jul 22 at 3:03 PM

All tenants have rights; the sick, the elderly and those who care for God's helpless creatures have even more rights because they care for those who can't care for themselves. Surely there is a sane solution and a moral obligation to save this haven!

Greg L. says ... on Wednesday, Jul 22 at 2:55 PM

Terrance says ... on Wednesday, Jul 22 at 2:15 PM

how is it that people can "evict" someone that has been there so long w/ no reasoning...or time and help for moving. They have to have rights??? Come on- there has to be an attorney here that will give them free legal advice...

Outrageous!!! How does this "Landlord" sleep at night knowing what he is doing? Hopefully LL will change mind. If not possible> fair amount of time to find animals homes and a relocation package should be offered to settle them.shame on U

This is appalling! Why would a landlord be so uncaring as to break up this family? We need more critter havens in the world, not less. I hope the landlord rethinks his unkind decision and allows this devoted couple to stay together, critters and all!

It goes to show the greed and avarice in society today. These folks have little income & do sterling work in caring for unwanted animals yet the landlord gives them no notice just to make a fast buck. He should hang his head in shame.

These wonderful folks have worked devotedly to care for their adopted critters. How ironic (and unfair) it is that they find themselves losing their home and the animal haven with little notice and no resources to deal with this devastating blow.
