My daughter has the N1H1 virus (Swine flu) and I called today and my insurance with Athem/Medco does not cover the antivirus medication called Oseltamivir (Tamiflu). When I called them on 8/20/2009 at 11:45 a.m. they could not explain why they don't cover it. Then only stated that I could communicate to them by mail about this situation. I am a special education teacher in fresno county, and my daughter caught the virus a few days ago. Now I have to pay $200 to have only 10 pills. I can afford it, but I grieve for the parents who may not afford this. Additionally my school district and myself personally pay almost $700 a month for coverage. This is a crime. The Center for Disease Control recommends not only that my daughter have the medication, but the caregiver. I am a high risk carrier due to my autoimmune disorder of scleroderma and that I am a classroom teacher who is contact with over 600 children. Please post this story.
