Milan Institute Owner and Visalia Native

President and Owner of the Milan Institute and Milan Institute of Cosmetology schools Gary Yasuda was recently presented with the prestigious STAR Award at the California Association of Private Postsecondary Schools (CAPPS) Annual Conference. CAPPS has a membership of over three hundred institutions and is dedicated to ensuring that the needs of private postsecondary schools are met from an educational, policy and business perspective. This is the first year CAPPS presented the STAR Award, which was created to honor its dedicated members who have generously donated their time and resources to supporting the organization. Mr. Yasuda was one of five recipients and delivered a heart-felt speech that expressed his passion for education and gratitude for the support of his management team and parents who were present at the ceremony.

“I am so honored to have been selected to receive this award among so many talented leaders,” said Mr. Yasuda. “I could not have achieved such success without the continued support of my parents and management team. I would also like to thank all of our students and graduates. Without their commitment to career training, I wouldn’t have come this far.”

The Milan Institute and Milan Institute of Cosmetology school group first began as Golden State Business College located in Visalia, California in October 1985. The school was opened by Gary Yasuda’s father, James M. Yasuda, O.D. Shortly after Gary graduated with a B.S. in Economics and Biology from UCLA, his father asked him to return home to Visalia to help run the school. From that point on, Gary continued to grow the company in number of schools, locations, programs and staff. Currently, there are 16 locations throughout California, Nevada, Idaho and Texas. The schools offer programs ranging from allied health to business to cosmetology: Healthcare Billing and Coding, Administrative Medical Assistant, Medical Assisting, Dental Assistant, Pharmacy-Pharmaceutical Technician, Massage Therapy, Office Administration, Cosmetology-Operator, Aesthetician-Esthetician (Facialist). Most schools also offer student salons, student massage spas and/or dental clinics, where value-priced services are offered to the public under instructor supervision.

I'm a manager, & I laugh when stylists complain about Milan, compared to the beauty schools I attended. Most normal schools just do ONLY State Board testing and granny styles. You get only SB supplies, then you learn how to do hair after grad.
