Milan Students Raise $2,322 for MMC

Clovis, CA - On Saturday, March 27, 2010, Milan Institute, a career school offering training in the healthcare, cosmetology and massage therapy fields, hosted a Girls Night Out fundraiser to benefit the Marjaree Mason Center (MMC) at its Clovis campus. The event was organized by the Cosmetology, Esthetician and Massage Therapy students and headed by Amber Tucker, the Massage Therapy Program Coordinator. Students performed an incredible 91 nail polish changes, 77 chair massages, 72 hairstyles and 54 makeup applications for 250 clients during the brief two-hour event. All services were free upon purchase of a $10 or $15 ticket for the event. The school raised an impressive $2,322, all of which was donated to the MMC.

For nearly 30 years, the MMC has offered shelter and supportive services to victims of domestic violence in Fresno County. Currently, the center operates the county’s only domestic violence shelters. The MMC works in partnership with CUT IT OUT, a program of the Salons Against Domestic Abuse Fund dedicated to mobilizing salon professionals and others to fight the epidemic of domestic abuse in communities across the United States.

The Girls Night Out event was as fun as it was successful. Music was provided by a live DJ and guests enjoyed refreshments and a fashion show. Local restaurants and businesses donated prizes for raffles and an auction. “This was an amazing event!” said Amber Tucker. “Everyone was enjoying themselves and there were smiles and laughter everywhere. I’m so proud to be a part of an organization that gives back to its community.”
