I'm currently going to school to become a math teacher, but seeing how Fresno Unified is handling the situation with the 3 low performing school turns me away from the profession. Particularly the situation at Carver Academy. This really hits home because I'm a product of the West Side and a former Carver student. I'm familiar with some of the students at Carver and their family and have contacts to teachers in all 3 schools. First off, why would they choose to bring this up now and put these schools in this turmoil. The situation at these schools is that they are scoring really low on standardize testing. How can you have a test that standardized when there isn't such a thing as a standardized student. Students living around these 3 schools are from low income family, with little to no resources available and yet they are expected to perform just as well as students from North Fresno. FUSD has ignored these areas and wonder why there isn't improvement. Speaking of standardized testing, most of the schools in FUSD are giving CST test. How can you expect these 3 schools to perform when their future is uncertain. "Your school may not be here next year. Your teacher may not be here next year. Now, go and do good on your test." Makes no sense! Now on to the decision themselves. Hansen originally promise these teachers a decision before spring break. A teacher friend from Webster told me that before spring break, Hansen had a meeting to inform the teachers no decision has been made. Same thing at Carver and Yosemite. A decision was suppose to be made by the board meeting on April 28. On April 27th, teacher found out that no decision has been made through the Fresno Bee. Now on to today's board meeting. They informed the teachers that a decision will be made by the end of this month. Come on! You're keeping teachers and students from knowing what their future holds. I question whether a decision hasn't been made as they want us to think. Yosemite has hired a new principal. That's strange that a decision has been made, yet a principal was hired and replace. They've decided! These "board meeting" today is to cover their butts so that they can say they had the community's input. My friends and family around Carver didn't get word of the meeting until the day before from their child and the meeting was at 4pm. People have jobs and lives. We in this area need more further notice. I confronted a teacher about it and talked to my friends at Yosemite and apparently none of the teacher at Carver received an email regarding the the board meeting where as Yosemite's staff members received it the day before anyone from Carver and its surrounding community found out. These are some things that need to be looked at and addressed. Sorry for any grammatical errors or randomness of this post. I'm a math major, not an english major.

Nothing in the press emphasizes or mentions that it is Obama's Race to the Top that mandates that one of the four options be selected. In all fairness, the announcement was made in March by the Feds and FUSD is struggling to address action fairly.

Sorry. I'm a English Learner and was classified with ADHD. I've worked hard to overcome all that. That's why math; numbers are universal languages. I'm passionate about what I had to say and wrote it real quick. HOWEVER, my writing isn't the issue.

Irregardless of you being a math major, you are a future teacher. Shameful.
