The Central Valley offers an abundance of events and sites of great interest that bring families and people together.
Kearney Park’s annual Civil War Reenactment, the largest event of its kind, attracts thousands of spectators each year as they go back in time to witness American life during the 1860s. I took this picture of the soldiers and combined it with the smoke from the battlefield canons to bring back the ghosts and memories of that period.
At the Big Fresno Fair there is something for everyone! Food, concerts, horse racing, exhibits, shows, music, competitions, and my favorite, the rides of the midway! For me this picture illustrates pure excitement, with its string of neon lights.
My last picture shows the edge of the Central Valley as it approaches the foothills at Piedra. It was early spring and I was hoping to photograph wild flowers. However, unexpectedly something else caught my attention. In the distance I saw what looked like a chimney on a hill. At first I thought it was all that remained of a pioneer home, but upon further inspection I discovered that it was an abandoned gold mining kiln about thirty feet tall. As I looked around I could enjoy the beauty of the landscape and the valley below.
It is the places, the people, and the events like these that make the Central Valley special to me.
