March 4, 2009 should have been the happiest day of my life, but quickly became the most frightening day of my life. The day our first children were born. Our twin girls were born at 26 weeks. Clara weighed 910 gm or 2lbs and Olivia weighed 660 gm or 1lb. 7oz. After going into preterm labor at 23 weeks all the efforts to stop the contractions could only temporarily keep these girls from getting an early jump on all the many things they have on their to do list. We were able to bring them home three months later a day apart about a week before their actual due date after conquering the typical preemie trials and tribulations of breathing, feeding and seeing. Today I have to pinch myself their heroic journey seems like a dream (more like a nightmare) and to be blessed to be the mother of these two amazing, courageous and beautiful girls seems unreal. Everyday is a new accomplishment, a day further from that early start and new appreciation for life that these two girls have given me and many others that they have touched along their journey.
