Luke is full of joy and has an incredible appetite for life. Despite the challenges of cerebral palsy, seizures, and significant speech delays, Luke wakes up each morning with an infectious smile from ear to ear.

Luke had complications at birth and spent the first 10 days of his life in NICU. Doctors told us that he would have medical and developmental challenges, and might not even be able to walk. With lots of encouragement from his big brother Isaiah, lots of great therapists and intervention, and a tenacious spirit, Luke took on the challenge. At 2, he was able to walk. It was at that time that he also was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and had to start taking medicine daily for seizures. He didn't let that get him down.

Although he still has significant speech delays and has limitations on the right side of his body, he can walk, run, climb, and enjoy life to the fullest. He loves playing basketball, and is actually a pretty incredible player. Luke's perfect day would be spent outside shooting basketball, riding bikes, and swinging all day.

Luke inspires us everyday. Despite his physical limitations, he practices and pushes his body to do things that amaze us all. Despite only having a few words in his vocabulary, he can make friends quicker and express love better than most. Luke has spent a lot of time in and out of doctors, the hospital, therapists, early intervention school, and special education preschool. He's incredible because he makes the most out of every situation, every appointment, every introduction.

We celebrate Luke's life everyday, and are so grateful to everyone who has supported us over the years. With Luke, life is more joyful, more geniune, and more incredible everyday.

This is Soren he is 7 years old. At the age of 3, he was diagnosed with A.L.L. leukemia. This September it will be one year since he received chemotherapy. He is a great example of what to do when life hands you lemons. Not only did he make lemonade.. Throughout his treatment he was a very brave boy. He never complained about anything. He knew when his blood counts were low he had to stay home to protect himself, and stay healthy. He always made the best of any situation. Most importantly, he always felt the need to give back. He participated in Light the Night and help raise money for his team for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. He also begged us to take him to Children's hospital to participate in the radiothon for the last two years. He said, "Mommy I need to go help my hospital grow bigger, so they could help more kids get better." He has also helped sell Kid's Day newspapers for the last two years. This year the only way he could go sell newspapers was if he left to work with his dad at 4:30 AM, he patiently waited until 7:00 AM to begin selling papers. This past May he decided he wanted to shave his head for a national organization called St. Baldrick's that supports childhood cancer research. All of these have been his idea and his decision to want to give back. Soren is very sympathetic to others, anytime he hears someone is sick or not feeling well he says, "you should go to Children's Hospital they will help you feel better." He is an incredible kid, brother, son, and friend. I am so proud of his caring attitude and big heart. He makes it easy for us to have a positive outlook on his bright future. I am honored to nominate him.

Every mother believes their child is special. But Kimani Kennedy has a heart full of love. In the past year, Kimani has suffered the worst pain a child should go through. In June of 2010 her very best friend passed away. Her grandfather. And in August, her brother Chris was severly injured. Her grandfather was a part of her everyday life since birth. The two were inseperable. They ate meals together, took naps and went for morning and evening walks. One morning she went to get her "Papa" so they can go for their walk and there he lay, eternally asleep. Kimani was devasted. She finally understands that he is not coming back. She is understands that he is "with grandma and the angles." But not a day goes by that she says, Mom I miss grandpa I just want to see him one time please, tell grandma to bring him back. Soon after in August, her brother Chris, was severly injured. He was actually admitted to Valley Childrens hospital for sometime and currently remains under the care of the Neurologist there. At this point her attention is refocused and she becomes the caring and nurturing person she is today. She understood his condition, as he was bed ridden for months. She did all the little things to help make him comfortable. Bringing to him whatever he needed. Water, blankets and extra pillows. She would even read him a book just to keep him company. With all that she has been through , she has come out a very kind, caring and nurturing little lady. Kimani is special to me because she reminds me how pure the heart can be in a world full of chaos. She is my inspiration. I love you Kimani!

I have put a photo of all three of my children-as they are all very special in their own way!Savannah (my oldest) as a child and been given the nick name "Savannah Ryan Attitude" and till this day lives up to her name :0)Although, she is my biggest challange-I will say that she is really one of the smartest, funniest, and charming young ladies that I know (even though she DOES make bad choices). My Savannah grew up with out a father (he was killed in a car accident when I was 3 months pregnant) so you can only imagine how tough it had to be for her growing up with a mom who was a full time student and also employed.Savannah had to share her home with foster children starting at the age of 5 years old (because I decided to open my home to foster care) and thats how I was so blessed to be given a son-he was only one day old when they brought him to my home!I have been blessed with not only a beautiful daughter-but a wonderful son!Christian is now 10 years old and believe it or not - he is really the only child of mine that looks like me lol My son has the biggist most beautiful smile and has a heart of gold!My son likes to travel-this photo is of him enjoying the Grand Canyon! He always says he is going to take care of me when he gets older and plays sports professionally (he is very athletic by the way!)Last but not least - my newest arrival-Skyler! My baby girl has a nickname of Tazmainian Tornado! I do not know if I am just old-or she is really just a Tazmainian Tornado lol Skyler has been talking since before her 1st birthday! If you saw her baby photos-you would have never thought she was a real baby-she is just a doll who's hair has never stopped growing! She is just full of love and is as bossy as can be!Skyler has stolen the hearts of many - especially her brother and sister! She is sooo bright and is already picking up on spelling and sounding out words! She loves for me to read to her!All of my children have had thier fair share of Valley childrens hospital (starting with the one on sheilds lol) and I am very confident and proud of our hospital facility! They work so hard (even in these tought financail times). I have to close with just saying - I couldn't just do this for one child-I had to put all 3 because they are all very special to me! Savannah is too old for the contest but I had to include her becuase she is still my baby girl :0)

Kyle is 2months old and he is totally incredible. Kyle was diagnosed with tricuspid atresia when I was still pregnant, and he requires 3 open heart surgeries before he starts kindergarten, including one that he had at 1 week of age, and another sometime before the end of 2011.
For such a young boy, he has lived a full journey already. All of his surgeries will take place at CHCC and we are so greatful for the hospital, their surgeons, cardilogy team, nurses, and the rest of the staff. Miracles really do happens, and Kyle has proven that to his entire family.

I would love to nominate my niece/god daughter Anayah Aurora Lopez. Anayah was due to enter this world in October of 2010, but do to premature labor complications she came early at 26 weeks on June 15th, 2010 at the very small weight of 1 lb. 5 oz. 12 1/2 inches long! She was sent off to Children's hospital Central California where she spent the next few months being cared for by the wonderful NICU. She had to under go a heart procedure do to a PDA which was unable to close naturally due to early delivery. Anayah was finally released home on the first week on November 2010. Anayah is now a happy and blessed 13 month old weighing in at 16 pounds! Although she is still small for her age she knows how to crawl and has two teeth and does many things children her age do. Doctors say she is on a normal track for her age. By the grace of God and the amazing nurses and doctors at Children's hospital we are all blessed to say we have Anayah in our lives!
